Pure art or pure genius?

Maybe both? An OR nurse and father needed to take a nap after his 12-hour shift, but he also needed to watch his kids while his wife went to the store. So, he ingeniously created a contest for his kids. He told them that he would be posing for a form of “realism art” while they draw him. The winner would receive a candy bar. His pose? Napping. Simply brilliant.

Anotha' one! Who's ranking highest in ethics and honesty? —

Nurses. The results are in, and the for the last 18 years, Americans have reported nurses as the most ethical and honest professionals out there. The 2019 Gallup poll asked Americans to "Please tell me how you would rate the honesty and ethical standards of people in these different fields -- very high, high, average, low or very low," and nurses came on top at 85% at very high/high ("Engineers" came in second at 66%, while "Car salespeople" came in last at 9%). Trust me, I'm a nurse.

And the industry with the best job outlook for 2020? —

Health care. U.S. News and World Report just released its rankings of the 100 best jobs of 2020. While NPs ranked #5 and RNs took lucky #13, the top 20 was nearly a full health care sweep, at 70% of listed jobs. CRNAs just missed the top, coming in at #21. Moral of the story? Whether you're a nurse, aspiring nurse, or hold another role in health care, you're on the right track!

I thought giving birth was supposed to be the hardest part —

The cost of simply bringing a human into this world in the U.S. is over $4,500 - more than what the average American female makes per month. And that's before the purchase of a single diaper, canister of formula, or giving the slightest thought to education and subsequent healthcare costs. The most surprising part? We have the highest cost in the world! In Finland, it costs a mere $60 to bring a child into the world. By the way, did you see the viral hospital bill for skin-to-skin contact? That's one expensive hug.

No vaccine, yes problem (and no education) —

Nearly 800 students in the Seattle area were told not to return to school after winter break this past Wednesday if they hadn't received their measles vaccine yet. Last year, a new law was passed in Washington state that "eliminated parents' personal option to exempt their children from the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine." This effort was paired with multiple warnings and free vaccine clinics. With 1,282 cases of measles recored in 2019 -- the highest since 1992 -- Washington officials weren't taking any chances.

The Inside Goop? —

Netflix is partnering with Gwyneth Paltrow, and despite her looking fab at the Golden Globes, haters gonna hate. Goop, her lifestyle and wellness brand has been criticized for selling controversial products and ideas. The Netflix series, due out at the end of the month, explores her theories and products at length. Whether or not people agree, Goop and its new Netflix original are definitely hyped.
