What do you wish the world knew about nursing?

I wish the world knew that nurses are so incredibly smart. Really, they don't get the credit they deserve! They have to make split second decisions about a patients life before the doctor has a chance to get there. They make the decision about whether something is of enough concern to call a doctor back in in the middle of the night.

They are wicked quick to decision making, brave, and smart people. I think some people, even medical professionals themselves, have gotten stuck in the past about who nurses are and what they're capable of.

What do you wish the world knew about nursing?

It’s so much more than just a job. While we can’t physically take our work home, we often do mentally or emotionally. we give a lot more than just our time and energy, we give big pieces of ourselves, 12 hours at a time. It’s not just our brains that work hard for us, it’s our hearts, too.
