Guaranteed Hours 36 hours per week.
Every other weekend.
First to float.
Ratios: Follow CA state guidelines; 4 to 1 couplets 3 to 1 stable antepartums; 2 to 1 L&D; 1 to 1 for deliveries (a second NRP nurse is in every birth so nurse not only nurse in delivery).
EMR: Cerner, fetal links, HUGS for infant security.
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per every weeks (usually two days together and the other two spread apart)
Holidays: Must work a major and a minor.
Scrub Color: L&D scrubs are provided, but they need to have navy blue scrubs as well and they want the nurses to wear navy scrubs to work each day to change out of.
Floating: All nurses will do L&D, PP, C-section, women's health-not just one or the other.
Common diagnosis / Types of patients: Will take L&D, recovery, post partum, women's health patients; high risk OB, transfer out for major maternal or fetal complications if mom has major cardiac issue or baby needs surgery; recovering of babies.
L&D nurses must do antepartum, L&D postpartum; approx 250 births per month; NICU charge nurse and RT attend all high risk deliveries; level 2 NICU in house; no block certifications; very strong perinatal safety initiatives; no elective deliveries less than 39 weeks; evidence based practice is huge, Pitocin checklists, maternal mental health screenings, reducing number of low risk primary C-sections; pre-eclampsia initiatives; unit does 100% chart audits; baby friendly hospital (immediate skin to skin and initiate breast feeding asap); have a lactation store on the campus; usually only perm staff do triage.
