Interpretation and Management of dysrhythmias, Multi-system organ failure, IV insulin protocols, GI surgery, Chronic/Acute Renal failure and IV therapy, CVA/Acute Stroke management, External ventricular drains (EVD), Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun, ICP monitoring, Post Neurosurgery management, Spinal cord injury, Traumatic Brain injury, Respiratory/Thoracic care, Infection Prevention, Isolation Precautions/ Use of PPE, Phlebotomy, Surgical Wounds with drains/Wound Vac
Patient Diagnosis:
Post-transplant (liver, kidney/pancreas, small intestine, islet cell, multivisceral), ESLD, ESRD, thoracic/abdominal/ENT/Flaps/General surgery, sepsis, multisystem organ failure, pre-transplant hepatology patients, overflow from neurosurgery (craniotomy, CVA, etc.), overflow from MICU.
May come into contact with Covid Patients
RTO: Travelers may have approved time off if they can still work their required shifts each week: 7 days max
Pre-approved time off on case per case basis based on unit needs.
Travelers scheduled after permanent and PRN staff make schedule requests within self-scheduling system.
RTO:
Inpatient:
RTO during a contract will not be approved for greater than 8 days and this must be scheduled so that the traveler can still work his/her full 36 hours/week.
RTO in between the ending of one contract and the beginning of another will not be approved for greater than 7 days.
Periop Units:
Travelers can only take 3 days off within a contract.
Three (3) or more absences in a 13-week contract will result in immediate termination of the contract
Return Staff Policy: If a nurse has held previous employment with Medstar, must be gone for a minimum of 1 year to return as a traveler.
