Guaranteed 36 hours per week

  • Ratios: Per ACOG Guidelines (2:1) - Must be comfortable taking 2 patients.
  • Weekends: Usually every other weekend (same as perm staff)
  • Scrub Color: Provided by hospital
  • Tele: Post-surgery only for the hour post-surgery C-section
  • Types of patients: High risk patients, some multiple births (up to triplets usually), run insulin gtts, run mag drips; for C-section will circulate and recover; no other surgeries on unit unless tubal or emergent hyster needed; no elective abortions; will recover babies (skin to skin) after delivery; have techs that help as well; make sure the nurses are true L&D as their Post-partum nurses are separate--need C-section experience; must be strong L&D.

Have a lot of protocols in place to help with cares--try to give a couple days on the unit as orientation; please note the charting is NOT by exception only--they must chart everything. Have level 3 almost level 4 NICU that attends high risk deliveries. Must be used to a fast, busy unit. Deliver over 300 per month.
