Med/Surg TO PCU Acuity - ICU RN Needed
Must be ICU Level RN, willing to float to MedSurg/Tele
Will you accept a first-time traveler? Only if previous float pool experience and 2+ years experience, otherwise travel experience required
Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
Patient Types:
Please ensure traveler understands – this is a float pool position – floating throughout various units within Rapid City location – within or below scope of practice (to include MedSurg)
ICU:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma Diagnoses include but are not limited to: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma – heavy trauma population Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR – 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
IMC/TELE/MEDSURG:
Common Diagnoses include but are not limited to:
Orthopedics Neuro (Stroke, Transient Ischemic Attack, etc.) Surgical Medical (Urinary Tract Infection, Pneumonia, Failure to Thrive, etc.) Intermediate Care (Sepsis, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, End-stage Renal, Alcohol Withdrawal, etc.) Oncology Heart and Vascular (Chest Pain, Heart Failure, Pre/Post Cardiac Cath, etc.)
Patient Ratios: RN: ICU – 1:1-3 (3 patients are rare and dependent on acuity) IMC/Tele/MedSurg - 1:4-5
Required Education:
Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing BSN required
Skills required:
ICU level RN – willing to float to Med/Tele – this is a float pool position throughout scope of practice
Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, Cardiac rhythm interpretation, IV starts, Blood product administration, CIWA, drain/tube management, indwelling and straight catheter insertion/management, continuous bladder irrigation, chest tube maintenance
Experience with Cardiac procedural recovery (CABG/TAVR/post Cardiac Cath), MI pharmacology, Heparin gtts
Floating: If yes, where?
This is a float pool position floating routinely between: ICU, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Medical, Progressive Care Unit, Oncology, and Heart and Vascular – all units are mixed acuity and will have Intermediate to MedSurg level patient types
Could be floated within scope of practice and below
If traveler is competent to float to other areas, such as ICU, that skillset may be utilized
Scheduling:
Hired into straight shift – see availability for posting; could potentially split shifts
Weekend rotation: Every other
Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No on-call
Holiday Expectations: Every other
Approval of time off? Up to 7 days – must extend to accommodate a 13-week contract
No time off during annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (first 2-3 weeks in August annually)
