Experience
12 months of role experience is required.
12 months of Progressive Care Unit experience is required.
Experience with Epic is required.

Additional Details:

Monument Health blackout dates for RTO are 8/1/24 - 8/18/24. Any RTO or special requests not included on your application will NOT be considered.

Monument includes the expected start date they prefer on their job postings. Please keep this in mind when listing your start date availability! If you can start on the day they are requesting, you are more likely to be selected for an interview or offer.

Guaranteed Hour: 48

Scheduling:

  • 6-week schedules
  • Weekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends, which include Friday, Saturday and Sunday
  • Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No mandatory call time. If it is an extra shift on top of their already guaranteed hours, and we have enough staff then they could be placed on call for that shift.
  • Holiday Expectations: Currently not accepting RTO requests during holidays – send RTO requests to manager for approval around winter holidays
  • Approval of time off? Ok to approve up to a week and a half – must extend if taking a full week off.

Floating:

  • Any Adult Inpatient Unit - Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, Observation
  • Could be floated within scope of practice and below
  • Will float in rotation with other travelers

Beds: 36-48 (flex with semi-private rooms as needed)

Patient Ratios - PCU RN will work through all areas below:

  • Long length of stay (MedSurg/NO Tele) - 1:5-6 - 1 pod with 10-12 patients
  • Med Surg/Telemetry: (no IMC drips) – 1:5 - 2 pods with 10-12 patients each
  • Intermediate Care – 1:4 - 1 pod with 8 patients – this could be Med/Tele patients vs IMC

Patient Types:

  • Mixed unit (Med/Surg to IMC level, as well as Long Length stay patients): ratios dependent on acuity
  • 90% MEDSURG; 10% INTERMEDIATE CARE - traveler will care for all acuity levels
  • Common diagnoses include, but are not limited to: DKA requiring insulin drips, Pre/post-surgical patients, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure with or without the need for hemodialysis, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders and infections, soft tissue injury and minor fractures, and DVTs. Also, can see CVA overflow.
  • We administer a variety of oral, IV, IM, and SQ medications, titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions.
  • We manage peripheral IV, midline, PICC and central line access, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices.
  • We provide preventative and restorative skin and wound care.
  • We also have telemetry monitoring that the nurses read and interpret.

Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Skills required:

  • PCU R - Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments
  • Previous experience with above-mentioned patients, including IMC/stepdown and neuro (can float to ONS); ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, wound care, line management, drain/tube management, drip titration of below medications
  • Drip Titration: please ensure nurse is comfortable with the following – Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), occasionally esmolol drips or other Betablockers or other antihypertensives

Teaching hospital – potential to work with students

Audits are done monthly for Pre/Post pain scoring-Must meet 90% compliance with audits.

Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler
