Requirements
Experience
12 months of role experience is required.
3 months of travel experience is required.
24 months of Intensive Care Unit experience is preferred.
Experience with Epic is required.
References

Additional Details:

Monument Health blackout dates for RTO are 8/1/24 - 8/18/24. Any RTO or special requests not included on your application will NOT be considered.

Monument includes the expected start date they prefer on their job postings. Please keep this in mind when listing your start date availability! If you can start on the day they are requesting, you are more likely to be selected for an interview or offer.

Guaranteed Hour: 48

Scheduling:

  • Weekend rotation: Every other
  • Will they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No
  • Holiday Expectations: No RTO during holidays
  • Approval of time off? Up to 7 days – must extend to accommodate a full 13-week contract.

Floating:

  • ICU RN qualified to float to ED
  • Not common unless overstaffed. Could float to any adult floor – including MedSurg/Tele with 1:4 ratio. Confirm traveler comfortability during interview

Beds: 39 – MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU – mixed unit

Patient Ratios - RN: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (rare) – acuity dependent

Patient Types:

  • Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
  • Diagnoses include but are not limited to: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma – heavy trauma population
  • Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR – 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
  • Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this – given to permanent staff

Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing; Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of Nursing

Skills required:

  • Comfortability working a 48hr/week contract – this is not negotiable for this unit
  • Experience with the above-mentioned patients
  • Experience with IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, telemetry, strong critical thinking and assessment skills, working well in team setting, comfortable in fast pace setting with all critical patients.
  • Impella, IABP and CRRT – strongly preferred

2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred

If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel and have significant RN experience outside of ICU

Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
