Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, only if greater than 2 years of experience
Permanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a traveler.
Patient Types: Psychiatric - Child/adolescents ages 5-17 & Adults; Please make sure traveler understands they will work with peds; No dementia, severe autistic or forensic patients, no inmates; Diagnoses include, but are not limited to: Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia, Psychosis, Adjustment Disorder; Facility does occasionally have violent/aggressive patients; No ECT
Required Education: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing
Skills required: RN: Be able to do a take down and physical restraint on an agitated patient if necessary – forms of restraint include: Time out/seclusion rooms, restraint rooms, holding patient down to administer shot, the facility has but is not currently using a restraint chair; verbal de-escalation, group didactic skills, good communication skills; Team Nursing approach – RN will administer their own meds (injectable and PO) pass meds, evaluate care plans and note progress and documentation, admission screens, Assessments, minor wound care, EKGS (we train), glucometer, take telephone or verbal orders, acknowledge orders, vital signs, the Columbia suicide risk screen, end of shift report, log in patient belongings, screenings and discharge planning
Floating: RN’s/LPN’s could float between the (3) floors at this off site Behavioral Health facility; Could be floated within scope of practice and below
Scheduling: Blocked scheduling will NOT be accommodated; Weekend rotation: every other weekend; 12 hours on the weekend and also could be a combo on Fri, Sat or Sun; Combo shifts are 2 12’s and 2 8’s in a week;
Will they be on call? They could be low census on call depending on acuity.
Holiday Expectations: If you work one major holiday of Thanksgiving or Christmas, you get the other one off each year. Other holidays are first request or as the schedule allows. 2/4 holidays are required.
