The PT Compact aims to expand access to physical therapy services by easing the process for physical therapists (PTs) and physical therapist assistants (PTAs) to practice in different states.
In a PT Compact member state, PTs and PTAs with a clear record can practice in other participating states using a "compact privilege" that functions similarly to a license. Currently, the PT Compact encompasses 39 states, with more to come.

Temporary/Limited Permit: Temporary permits can be issued to students of an approved
PT program, who have met all other requirements for licensure, but who have not yet successfully completed the licensing exam. This allows for them to be involved in direct patient care as a PT/PTA graduate under the direct supervision of an Alabama licensed PT/PTA.
Initial Licensing Fee: $100 for PTs and PTAs
